Siran Winston made a lasting impression on the coaches at the Five-Star Basketball Camp held July 7-11 at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
After Winston's team won the NBA division tournament, the camp coaches selected him as the best defender and most outstanding player among 180 players at the camp.
"I want to thank my dad, mom and brothers. My mom drove me down there and back," Winston said. "I also want to thank my auntie, my coaches and anyone who helped me, including God."
Winston would love to play for basketball powerhouse Georgetown in college, but realistically expects to attend prep school after high school to develop his game and attract the attention of college basketball coaches.
"I'll probabaly go to a prep school for two years to work on my basketball game and get more attention from scouts," Winstead said.
"Football excites me, but not as much as basketball,"said Winston, who plays point guard and cornerback for Russellville High School. "Just getting a ball and dribbling is fun to me. Everythng about basketball gets me going."
