FC Board of Education approves nutrition program

The Franklin County Board of Education worked to tie up lose ends before the start of the new school year during their board meeting Monday morning.
The board voted to approve the Child Nutrition Program policy statement and agreement so that the program will be able to participate in the Child Nutrition National School Meals Program during the 2007-08 school year.
Superintendent Bill Moss said that the board might need to look at increasing the cost of lunches sometime in the near future because of the cost of gasoline and other price increases. All of the information was not available on this matter at the time of the meeting.
The board also approved an addition to the Student Code of Conduct for the school system. The new addition will allow drug screening for extracurricular students.
The board awarded several bids on the following items: copier and computer paper bid to Paper and Chemical Supply Company in Sheffield; bid for liquid propane to Dowdle Gas Company at $1.5349 per gallon effective through June 30, 2008; milk bid to Purity Dairies; ice cream to Mayfield Dairy Farms; and bread to Flower's Baking Company of Tuscaloosa. Food and supplies will be on the state bid awarded to Wood Fruitticher Grocery Co., Inc.

Before adjourning, the board discussed personnel issues, and decided that a special called meeting will be needed before school begins. However, no date and time was announced at the meeting.
The next regular board meeting will be held on Friday, Aug. 10.
