The sixth annual Alumni Golf Tournament sponsored by the Phil Campbell Booster Club will be held tomorrow at Haleyville Country Club.
The tournament began in 2001 at the Redmont Country Club in Red Bay and has been held in Haleyville the past five years.
"There was a group of guys that just liked to play golf, and they were looking for a way to raise money for the athletic program," said Bart Moss, who graduated from Phil Campbell in 1989 and has played in the tournament every year. "We've averaged about 125 people, and it's been a really good fundraiser."
The tournament has morning and afternoon tee times, and the format is a three-man scramble.
"Everyone comes to have fun at this tournament," Moss said. "Most people who come out there are weekend hackers – there aren't any Tiger Woods out there. Most people who play are repeat players – I'd say about 85 to 90 percent are alumni, and we allow alumni to pick their own teams. We allow other people in the community to play, and we encourage the Haleyville club's members to play, too."
Moss said people can still enter the tournament, which costs $65 per person.
"Most people prefer to play in the morning," Moss said. "The (morning) tee times will be limited, but there should be several afternoon tee times left."
