The nursing program at Northwest Shoals Community College's Phil Campbell Campus will be featured on an upcoming episode of "On the Job."
"On the Job," a weekly TV show set to premiere Nov. 4 on Alabama Public Television, was created by Alabama Industrial Development Training (AIDT).
The half-hour television show will provide viewers information on how and where to find educational and careers opportunities in Alabama. The "On the Job" episode featuring a program on the Phil Campbell campus of NW-SCC was taped on Sept. 20.
"One of the things that attracted them to our nursing program was Stan, the Medi-man," said Kym Robinson, public relations specialist for NWSCC.
Stan – short for Standard Man – is a 6-1 medical mannequin that breathes, blinks and simulates bodily functions. He's a virtual patient capable of simulating nearly any possible human medical emergency.
"We're the only community college in the state that has one," Robinson said.
Used in conjunction with a laptop computer, an instructor can use the practice patient – Stan – to simulate a wide range of complex medical conditions from head traumas to head colds.
"On the Job", which is hosted by Steve Marlowe, an AIDT special projects employee, is being produced by the AIDT staff. The staff is traveling all over the state to showcase available jobs, and training opportunities to prepare Alabamians for employment.
The airdate for the NW-SCC episode has yet to be determined.
