THARPTOWN – After a big win last week at Parkway Christian, Tharptown jumped out to 14-0 first-half lead over St. Bernard that was good enough for a victory after the second half was canceled due to a prolonged power outage.
The Wildcats (3-2) got on the scoreboard early when junior quarterback Tyler Cagle rushed in from the 1-yard line during the opening quarter to lead St. Bernard 6-0 after the point-after attempt failed.
Cagle ran in from the 3-yard line in the second quarter, and junior wide receiver Jacob Parker scored on a three-yard run to convert the 2-point attempt and give the Wildcats the final 14-0 margin.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. during halftime, the stadium lights and electricity in the area flickered off due to a transformer blowout, according to a team official.
Both teams' coaches and the offficials agreed to cancel the second half if the electricity didn't resume by 9 p.m. Power was restored a few minutes past the 9 p.m. deadline, so the official final score will be recorded as 14-0.
