RED BAY – The Red Bay Police Department may not can call their new building home yet but they are one step closer as the final walk through with the contractor is scheduled for today.
Police Chief Pat Creel said that he had hoped to be in the new building already but delays with the phone and computer jacks have set them back a few days.
"We should have phone service and Internet hookups (Thursday)," Creel said.
He estimates that he and his staff will be in their new facility by the end of next week.
"Hopefully, we can start moving by Wednesday," Creel said.
The new police department has four cells and includes spacious offices, along with a large booking and training area.
"There might be nicer police departments in Alabama but I haven't seen them," Creel said.
The new facility will be furnished with items donated to the department by the Tennessee Valley Authority, along with a few purchased items.
"We ran out of money before we could get new furniture, but this is nice stuff," Mayor Jeff Reid said.
The new police department completes the city's new building project. The new city hall opened last summer.
Reid said that there will be an open house held on Sunday, Dec. 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. for the residents of Red Bay to come and see the new buildings.
"We are holding our open house on the same day our merchant's have their Christmas open house."
