Great man of God taken far too soon

By Staff
Someone who could easily be described one of the county's most well-liked and well-respected men of God was tragically taken away from us Thursday.
Mark Smith, 46, a Russellville native, died from injuries sustained in the accident that occurred about 5:45 p.m. Thursday just off Jackson Avenue in
Smith was the pastor of Divine Baptist Church on U.S. 43 in Russellville, where he had led worship services for about a year.
Our sympathy and prayers go out to Mr. Smith's family and congregation.
The circumstances that led to his demise could only be described as a tragic accident, but also serves as a reminder that we never truly know when the good Lord may call us home.
As a devoted man of God, Mr. Smith leaves behind many people who will cling to his memory and the lessons that he taught each Sunday from the pulpit.
It's difficult to find words to explain such a tragedy but we believe there must have been an opening in Heaven for a good pastor and God decided Mr. Smith was the perfect man for the job.
