R.A. Hubbard defeats Vina 34-21

COURTLAND – The Vina Red Devils trailed just 14-13 at halftime at R.A. Hubbard Friday night, but the Indians prevailed 34-21 with a strong second half.
After Dustin Milam recovered an R.A. Hubbard fumble, Vina (2-6, 0-6) cashed in three plays later when Brent Townsend found Morgan McCarley for an 8-yard score. Randy Barnes converted the PAT to put the Red Devils ahead 7-0.
A pair of rushing touchdowns by LeBrandon Key and Tescumh Garth gave the Indians (3-5, 2-4) a 14-7 lead.
In the second quarter, Nash Creekmore scored on a 57-yard touchdown with 1:30 left until halftime.
Grant scored from the Vina 17 with 2:37 left in the third, and Key and Savaris Gholston each had rushing scores in the fourth quarter to put R.A. Hubbard ahead 34-13.
Creekmore, who rushed 20 times for 113 yards, found McCarley for a 38-yard touchdown, and Blake Thorn ran in the 2-point converstion to make the final score 34-21.
Thorn also had a third-quarter interception that he returned 35 yards. McCarley finished with two catches for 46 yards and two touchdowns.
Vina closes out region play next week at home against Hackleburg.
