Grassroots efforts can get it done

It is working for Gov. Mike Huckabee in Iowa. The media is reporting that Gov. Huckabee and Gov. Mitt Romney are neck and neck in the polls.
In a David versus Goliath type campaign, Gov. Huckabee has caught Gov. Romney in the Iowa polls.
Gov. Romney had done everything by the book in Iowa. He had made a couple hundred appearances in the state, spent millions on TV and other advertising, and has staff all over the state.
On the other hand Gov. Huckabee's campaign has caught Gov. Romney with a staff of 8 from a store front in downtown Des Moines. Gov. Huckabee's message has been a positive, inclusive, good-humored one.
Gov. Huckabee tells how his mother grew up in a house with dirt floors, and he is the first male to graduate from high school on his father's side. He is perceived to have an understanding of poor people that the Ivy League conservatives do not.
Gov. Huckabee is coming as close as anyone to the image that Ronald Regan gave the party.

Secretary of State Beth Chapman announced a new Web-based voter services to help the 91,854 Alabamians who are members of the military and civilians living overseas take the first steps necessary to vote in the upcoming elections. Alabama is the first of only three states to offer this new technology to our military and overseas voters.
"With our state's large number of military men and women serving abroad, it is our privilege to do anything and everything necessary to assist them in casting their vote," Chapman said.
