Phil Campbell girls collect fourth win

FLORENCE – The Phil Campbell B-varsity boys (5-0) used full court pressure defense to force 12 third quarter turnovers and held Shoals Christian to only four points in the second half to win 46-17 Thursday night.
Phil Campbell was led by Austin Nix with 15 points and Bailey Welborn with 13 points.
Matt Waid (6), Landon Hutcheson (6), Isaac Michael (3) and Dillon Hamby (3) also scored for the Bobcats.

Jessica Taylor had another double-double Thursday night with 12 points and 15 rebounds, but it was Alissa Smith who stole the show for the Phil Campbell varsity girls (4-2).
Smith scored 25 points (19 in the second half), and Chasity Morgan had 10 points and seven steals. Tatum Benford scored three points.
Phil Campbell pulled out to a 12-point lead in the third quarter.

A 28-10 first quarter deficit was just too much for the Phil Campbell varsity boys (3-3) to overcome Thursday night.
The hot-shooting Flame hit five straight three pointers to pull away from the Bobcats early.
Phil Campbell cut the lead to nine at the half, but Shoals Christian pulled away again in the third quarter due to a strong offensive rebounding performance.
Andrew Almon scored 23 points for the Flame and his twin brother, Daniel, scored 18 points.
For the Bobcats, Caleb Thompson led the way with 13 points and Jonathan Dill had 12 points.
Adam Mitchell (8), Pabla Santiago (3), Tanner Maddox (6), Corey Casas (5), Lawrence Butts (4), Josh Waid (2) and Korey Pounders (1) also scored for Phil Campbell.

Hazelwood outscored Tharptown 48-22 in the second and third quarters to take control in the Golden Bears' season opener Thursday night.
Jacob Parker led Tharptown (3-4) with 12 points, while Chris Ricks scored a game-high 22 points for Hazelwood.

Grant Fancher scored 13 points but Red Bay (0-2) couldn't overcome a tough shooting night Thursday against Marion County.
Cory McDonald and Tyler Tidwell scored 14 points each to lead Marion County (2-1).

Amber Jones scored a game-high 34 points to lead the Lady Golden Bears past Tharptown Thursday.
