The search for Franklin County's next director of the chamber of commerce is hitting full speed.
Chamber President Ken Askew said the board has begun accepting resumes to fill the position vacated by the resignation of Lisa Stockton last month.
Askew said the board is looking for applicants from all walks of life and all professional backgrounds.
"The most important thing is good communication skills," he said. "A person's background isn't as important as good communication skills. It takes a special person to be in the public eye like what's required of the executive director of the chamber of commerce."
While effective communication skills will help successful applicants promote the county to potential businesses, Askew said it's also important that the director be a resident of the county.
"We're looking for someone who is either a current resident or someone willing to commit themselves to the job and relocate here."
Interested applicants can mail a resume to P.O. Box 44, Russellville, AL 35653 by Jan. 18, 2008. Askew asked that all interest applicants submit resumes as effective Monday, the chamber office will be staffed sporadically by chamber directors and volunteers.
The interview process will begin after the Jan. 18 and Askew said the chamber hopes to have the position filled by late February.
