Belgreen defeats PC 65-46; Bulldogs gets another title try

PHIL CAMPBELL – Belgreen will make a return trip to the Franklin County tournament finals as the second-seeded Lady Bulldogs defeated No. 3 Phil Campbell 65-46 Friday night.
Belgreen only held a 17-13 advantage after the first period, but the Lady Bulldogs' Martha Billingham, who finished with a game-high 25 points, pumped in eight points during a 15-2 run in the second quarter that helped lead to a 34-19 halftime advantage.
In the third quarter, Deborah Billingham scored six of her eight points as Belgreen led by as many as 26 points before Phil Campbell's Alissa Smith split a pair of free throws and Jessica Taylor knocked down two from the line to make it 51-28 heading into the ffourth quarter.
The Lady Bobcats outscored Belgreen 18-14 in the final period, but it wasn't enough to catch up to the Lady Bulldogs' large lead, despite an 11-4 run by Phil Campbell midway through the fourth.
Ten players scored for Belgreen as Monica Smith finished with 10 points, while Amber Smith added seven and Kellie Oliver had five.
Amy Smith, Elizabeth Landers, Keri Metcalf, Candice Allen and Katy Britton each chipped two points apiece for the Lady Bulldogs.
Phil Campbell's Alissa Smith scored a game-high 17 points, while Chasity Morgan had 13, including seven in the fourth quarter, and Jessica Taylor added 10.
Tatum Benford (4) and Tiffany Miller (2) also scored for the Lady Bobcats.
