No. 8 Russellville completed a first-round sweep of Scottsboro as the Golden Tigers routed the Wildcats 11-2 Saturday.
Russellville, which won the opener 15-0 Friday and led 6-0 in Game 2 before heavy rain forced the game to be rescheduled for Saturday, scored twice in the fourth inning as senior Cory Trapp drove in two runs.
Scottsboro (11-14) scored its only two runs of the series in the bottom of the fourth but the Golden Tigers cushioned their lead with three more runs in the sixth inning. Freshman John Batchelor and senior Jacob Daniel each drove in a run with singles, while senior catcher Torey Baird had an RBI sacrifice fly to cap the scoring.
Trapp earned the victory on the mound with six hits and no earned runs allowed for the Golden Tigers (31-11).
In the first inning Jake Ward scored on a passed ball to put Russellville ahead 1-0. Baird hit a three-run homer and Seth Rhudy had a two-run shot to put the Golden Tigers ahead 6-0 in the top of the third when the game was called due to the weather.
Russellville will play at Mortimer Jordan Friday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. A deciding Game 3 will be played Saturday at noon, if necessary.
