Brown announces intent to seek District 2 seat

For Russellville mayor Johnny Brown, eight is enough.
After eight years in office, Brown announced in February that he didn't intend to seek re-election to a third term as mayor. But still hindered by the political itch, Brown has announced his intent to run for city councilman in District 2.
"I decided not to run for mayor so I could spend more time with my family and my grandkids," Brown said. "But I can devote as much time as necessary as city councilman."
Once Brown made his intentions not to seek the mayor's office public, he said his desire to serve the public and the city never wavered.
"We've got several projects underway that I want to see finished, that I want to be a part of finishing," he said. "I want to work with the mayor, regardless of who that may be."
Brown said he appreciated all the support he's gotten over the past two terms as mayor and asked for the people of District 2 to get behind him one more time.
"I appreciate, from the bottom of my heart, the people for letting me serve them as mayor," he said. "Now, I ask the people of District 2 to let me work for you as your councilman."
Qualification for the municipal election will begin July 1.
