Little Power Sports Track to present N.E.A.T. Series motocross race Saturday
The Little Power Sports Track will turn its lights Saturday night to host the Northeast Alabama Tennessee Motocross Racing Series.
The track will host the 34-race series three times this summer, including tomorrow's race at 6 p.m. and races scheduled for July 26 and Aug. 23.
The N.E.A.T. races for this year are divided into 30 classes, with male and female divisions based on engine types from 50cc to 450cc and divisions from ages 4-6 to 40-plus.
The track is owned and operated by Greg Little of Russellville's Little Power Sports, which also sponsors his 30-year-old brother, Keith Little, a WPSA motocross racer.
Little, the 2004 TT series national champion, currently rides a KFX 450R and recently signed a sponsorship deal with Kawasaki.
The LPS track is open for motocross practice Tuesday from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This week the track will also be open Friday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for race practice.
"(The LPS track) will be sanctioned as a national track soon," said Russellville resident Janet Saint, whose 13-year-old son, Blaine Saint, practices twice a week at the LPS track and leads the points standings in the Heart of Dixie racing series and the Super Mini series. "The track requires every rider to sign in and wear proper equipment, including a chest protector, riding boots, helmet and neck brace.
"Motocross is a fast-growing sport for these kids, and there's a lot of talent in Franklin County. It's a family-oriented sport."
