Extension sponsors heir property class
PHIL CAMPBELL – The Franklin County Extension Office will host an heir property workshop Friday at Northwest-Shoals Community College in Phil Campbell.
Lelia Wissert, regional extension agent, said the extension office is holding workshops so families can learn about the dangers of keeping land and property owned by many heirs. Participants will learn the steps that can be taken to protect themselves.
Heir property is land that is held in common by the descendants or heirs from someone who has died without a will or whose estate was not offered for probate.
Craig Baab, an attorney with the Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice in Montgomery, will present the information and answer questions during the workshop, which will be held from 10 a.m. until noon in the Northwest-Shoals Student Center.
The workshop is free but pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, call 332-8880.
