Organizers pleased with turnout at Keagan Rose Open Bass Tournament, call event a success

By Staff
The Second-Annual Keagan Rose Open Bass Tournament was a big success despite the threat of Hurricane Ike and soaring gas prices.
Although some boats failed to show due to the high cost of fuel, 65 watercraft – each holding a two-man team – participated in the charity event organized to benefit children born with disabilities.
Several fishermen had success on the water, but the team of Lane Bates and David Miller took first place and also caught the biggest fish of the day. For their victory, Bates and Miller won $1,500 and the 61/2 pound bass earned them an additional $650.00.
Buddy Smith and Rodney Godsey finished second and won $1,000 while Roger Motes and Chris Newell won $750 for their third-place finish.
J.C. Holder and Billy Tidwell – a second-place finisher in the inaugural event – were fourth.
Matt Riddle of Skeeter Boats and Performance Plus Marine presented a $200 gift card to Brandon Norris and John Hayes for being the highest finishing team in a Skeeter boat.
The organizers presented gifts to everyone who registered and gave away more than 60 draw prizes ranging from $25 to $140 in value.
The Wimberleys would like to thank everyone who participated in the event and want to invite them back next year.
They would also like to thank the following sponsors for donating cash or prizes to be given away: Finish Masters, Ranger Boats, Triton Boats, Skeeter Boats, Gary Yamamoto Baits, Zoom Baits, Tru-Turn Hooks, Bill Lewis Lures, Charlie Brewers Slider Company, Competitor's Edge Lures, Eagle Claw, Cr/me Lures, Bullet Weights, Action Bait Company, Shoals Outdoor Sports, Gray's Tackle, Perkins Wholesale Tackle, Bear Creek Bait Distributors, Robinson and Sons Construction, Jolly Dan's, McGriff Tire, Whitten Tire Service, Yogi's Seed and Seed, First National Bank, Banks BBQ, Chat-n-Chew, E&A Outdoors, Big Bass Adventures, Buffalo Rock, Dixie Flowers and Gifts, B&J Caf/, Bag-em, Lyles Wrecker, Wakefields Furnishings, Dixie Theater, O'Rielly Auto Parts, Unique Apparel, Willi's Gas &Grocery, C&J's, Academy Sports Outdoors, Wal-Mart, and special thanks to Odd Fellows Lodge in Pedmont.
