Teachers finding innovative ways to reach students

By Staff
In recent weeks local teachers have pulled into their bag of tricks to supplement classroom instruction with hands-on learning.
One teacher, Lee Brownell at Russellville Middle School, will even be recognized at a banquet this month for his creative space unit by the Huntsville chapter of the U.S. Space Club.
Third-graders at Phil Campbell Elementary had the opportunity last week to learn about bees through a visit from a beekeeper, while Belgreen second-graders enjoyed a visit from Lt. Jeff Michael's K-9, Player after studying rescue dogs who assist during natural disasters.
Farm Day and storytelling at Cypress Cove Farm, Cool Runnings with the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District and Accelerated Reading programs are just a few examples of ways local students can enjoy learning.
Teachers and administrators are under constant pressure to meet No Child Left Behind mandates and cover curriculum requirements. We applaud their efforts to make learning fun for Franklin County students.
