Vina boys get rare win over Belgreen

By Staff
VINA – The Vina boys basketball team did something Friday night it has not been able to accomplish since the early 1990s – defeat Belgreen at the varsity level.
The Red Devils used 22 points from Brent Townsend to pull out the 49-45 victory.
"It felt really good," said Vina coach Sonny Tibbs. "The best thing about it is the kids hustled."
Tibbs said he expected several mistakes because it was the first game of the season for Vina. The Red Devils were also without last season's leading scorer Morgan McCarley, who has a foot injury.
It also gives Vina an early lead in the Class 1A, Area 15 standings.
Patrick White added eight points for the Red Devils while Cass White scored six.
Taylor Hestor led the Bulldogs with 17 points.
Lady Bulldogs win
Belgreen jumped out to a 19-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as the Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 60-35 victory against Vina.
Katelin Barber led Belgreen with 10 points while Devyn Childers led the Lady Red Devils with 13 points.
