In a close football game, defense can be the key to victory. When facing one of the best quarterbacks in this part of the state, great defense is a must.
The Russellville football team had a great defensive performance during its 28-19 victory against Cullman in the Class 5A, state semifinals.
Darrian Graham led that defensive effort with a pair of interceptions in the second half to preserve the win.
Graham's first interception came in the closing moments of the third quarter with Russellville holding a 28-13 lead and Cullman on the Russellville 13-yard line. Cullman's quarterback took a shot at the end zone on first down, but the pass was tipped by two Russellville defenders before Graham grabbed the ball. His second interception occurred with less than a minute remaining in the game.
