A group of area Mary Kay Cosmetics consultants are working to provide Christmas gifts to area nursing home and assisted living residents.
Candy Nichols, a local registered nurse and Mary Kay consultant, said the "Adopt a Grandparent" program is a way of helping those who might not otherwise receive gifts during the holidays.
"Some people in the nursing home and assisted living facilities don't have family and might not see anyone over the holidays," Nichols said.
"This is a way to provide something a little extra for them."
The group is looking to provide gift baskets for 1,157 elderly residents throughout Franklin, Colbert and Lauderdale counties.
Each basket contains lotions and creams that are helpful to these residents. Each basket is valued at $20.
For each one given out to a resident in a nursing home or assisted living facility, there will be a card placed inside them for the person responsible for purchasing the basket.
"We realized this was a forgotten are and we wanted to do something like 'Santa for a senior," Tina Jhin said.
All donations should be submitted by Dec. 16 and the gifts will be delivered by Dec. 23.
"We need as many donations as possible so we can provide gifts for these residents," Jhin said.
