Educating our educators crucial today

By Staff
Russellville city school officials spent their first day back at work from the Christmas holidays Monday being taught, rather than teaching.
An in-service day was held Monday that included a presentation by the Franklin County District Attorney's Offices warning about gangs and how to recognize their members.
The presentation informed educators how to identify gang activity including clothing, music, colors, body markings and piercing.
Though District Attorney Joey Rushing said that gang problems have not yet reached the county, he expressed a concern that it could become a problem throughout north Alabama over the next decade.
In this growing age of uncertainty, it is a good sign to see our local law enforcement and school officials working together, preparing for what could happen and not reacting to what did happen.
