PHIL CAMPBELL – The Phil Campbell varsity boys basketball team struggled last week during an area game against Red Bay.
What a difference a week makes.
The Bobcats jumped out to 24-11 lead after the first quarter and held on for a 56-43 victory against the Tigers Friday to clinch a spot in the finals of the Franklin County Tournament.
Red Bay rallied in the second quarter, pulling within seven points at one time, but the Bobcats used a strong third-quarter performance to put the game away.
Pablo Santiago scored a game-high 23 points for Phil Campbell while Lawrence Butts added nine. Also scoring for the Bobcats were Adam Mitchell (7), Jordan Benford (7), Austin Nix (7) and Matt Waid (3).
Steven Nabers led the Red Bay offense with 16 points while Cory Timbs added 11. Also scoring for the Tigers were Curtis Morrell (8), Nathan Gray (5) and Cody Reynolds (12).
