RED BAY – The Red Bay City Council approved the lowest bid for the Sunshine Mills Sewer Project during the regular council meeting Monday night.
Mayor Bobby Forsythe reminded the council of their decision to reject the first round of bids for the project in the Jan. 5 meeting. The project was re-bid and the bids were significantly lower.
The council voted to accept the bid of $95,309.50 by Warren Ballard Construction in Winfield.
"This is a savings of $36,000 just by re-bidding the project," Forsythe said.
The Sunshine Mills Sewage Project will clean the grease from the water before entering the sewage system in order to cause less sewer problems for the city.
The council also voted to accept the best interest rate for an open line of credit for the Corridor V project. The limit on the line of credit is $100,000 as voted in the Jan. 5 meeting. CB&S Bank bid a rate of 3.89 percent, and Community Spirit Bank bid 3.19 percent on the line of credit. Both are fixed rates for 12 months.
The council accepted the bid from Community Spirit Bank.
"This is a washout account," Forsythe said. "If we need anything else for the Corridor V project, it will come from this line of credit but will be reimbursed by the state."
