BHS, THS and PC fall in semis

The Belgreen varsity boys basketball season came to and end Friday during the semifinals of the Class 1A, Area 15 Tournament after losing to Speake 49-32.
The Bulldog offense struggled in the first half, scoring only six points in the first quarter and four points in the second.
Scoring for Belgreen were Sam Presley (8), Taylor Hester (7), Brandon Hester (7), B.J. Horton (5) and Spencer Hargett (5).
Phillips 79,
Tharptown 29
The Phillips defense shut out Tharptown in the first quarter on its way to a 79-29 victory against the Wildcats in the Class 1A, Area 15 Tournament semifinals.
The No. 2-ranked Bears jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the opening period and pushed its advantage to 34-10 at halftime.
Scoring for Tharptown were Jacob Parker (8), Tyler Cagle (8), Manny Ricardo (6), Mackinney Flannigan (5) and Wade Berryman (2).
Andy Pounders scored 17 for Phillips.
Mars Hill 90,
Phil Campbell 59
Mars Hill used a strong first-quarter performance at both ends of the court to defeat Phil Campbell 90-59 and advance to the finals of the Class 2A, Area 14 Tournament.
The Panthers led 32-8 after one period of play and never looked back. By halftime the lead swelled to 50-18.
Adam Mitchell led the Bobcats with 17 points while Pablo Santiago scored 14 and Matt Waid added 10.
Also scoring for Phil Campbell were Josh Brannon (6), Jordan Benford (5), Austin Nix (4) and Bailey Welborn (3).
