RED BAY -The Red Bay varsity girls basketball team added to the program's long history of success Saturday night when it clenched another area title with a 48-43 victory against Mars Hill Bible School.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 15-3 lead by the end of the first quarter, but struggled offensively during the second and third periods.
"We'll take a win anytime I don't care how ugly it is," said Red Bay coach Donnie Roberts. "If we could have made layups and free throws it would have been easier game for us."
Roberts said he was pleased with his team's defensive effort. The Lady Tigers limited Mars Hill to 10 points in the first half and 20 by the end of the third.
Both teams found some offense in the fourth with Mars Hill outscoring Red Bay 23-19 in the closing period.
Britan Bolding led the Lady Tigers with 13 points while Morgan Duncan added 11 and Whitney Sharp scored 10.
Also scoring for Red Bay were Kirsten Sharp and Catilyn Childers with seven points each.
With the win Red Bay earned the right to host their sub-regional game Thursday against Oakman, a 74-54 loser to Sulligent in the Area 11 title game.
"The girls handled the pressure well," Roberts said. "If we win Thursday we'll get better seeding in the (regional) tournament."
