When Pam Welborn opened a clothing and consignment shop in November 2008, she wanted to give county and other area residents a new place to get a little variety.
She has done just that.
Located at the top of Spruce Pine, Pam's Place offers a wide selection of clothing, collectibles and jewelry.
"We have Barbie doll collectibles, Nascar, sports collector plates, clothing and jewelry," Welborn said.
"The jewelry is handmade with real gemstones that I make."
One line of items that Welborn is proud to offer is formal and prom dresses.
"We have formals ranging from $35 to $250," Welborn said.
The idea for a consignment shop came to Welborn as a way of offering some relief to shoppers during tough economic times.
"With the economy the way it is, consignment shops are very popular," she said.
"My husband owned the building and we had a house full of collectibles so it kind of came out of a hobby."
Welborn works as a registered nurse at Russellville Hospital and opens her shop on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Pam's Place offers a 50/50 consignment rate on items that are brought in already priced and on hangers. It is a 60/40 split on items not already priced and on hangers.
During the spring and summer, Welborn will rent spaces in her parking lot for yard sales for only a $5 charge.
