Relay for Life deadlines looming

With the Franklin County Relay for Life just around the corner on May 1, deadlines for the event are here.
ACS Volunteer Coordinator Beth Faulkner said the deadline for teams to sign up online is Monday, April 13.
"Every team has to be signed up online," Faulkner said. "We have 40 teams signed up so far. We have met our goal for the number of teams, but we would love to have more teams sign up before Monday."
Another looming deadline is the Torch of Hope luminary deadline. The Torch of Hope was introduced in 2007. The torch luminary is a lit torch that comes with a nice plaque for the family or cancer survivor. The torch came be purchased in memory or in honor of someone for $100.
"We have had several torches at Relay since it has been introduced," Faulkner said. "The torches are a very nice addition to the Relay luminaries."
The deadline for the Torch of Hope luminaries is April 26.
Faulkner said the teams are selling the white and gold luminaries, and those orders can be taken up until Relay night.
"The teams are filling their own bags again this year," Faulkner said. "The bags can be picked up at area banks. The team captain must turn in the money at the time the bags are distributed by the banks, but the team still gets credit for the luminaries on the final totals."
The banks that have luminaries are CB&S, Community Spirit, Bank Independent, Valley State Bank and First Metro.
The final team captain meeting for this year's Relay will be held Tuesday, April 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Russellville Hospital Education Center on Gandy Street.
Bank night is April 30 at CB&S Bank on Highway 43.
