The hot weather is here, and the organizers of the Franklin County Watermelon Festival recently received their first shipment of festival t-shirts.
Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Director Cheryl Bradford said the shirts have arrived, and are available for purchase at the chamber office.
This year's shirt comes in several different colors including red, yellow, green, tangerine, gray and aqua blue.
"Our new color this year is the aqua blue," Bradford said. "We decided not to order the khaki this year, and ordered the blue instead. They turned out beautifully."
This year's shirt brings the 'gang of ants' back with a different theme.
"This year's shirts feature an ant on a motorcycle to advertise our new bike show that will be added to this year's festival," Bradford said.
The 'gang of ants' has been the focal point for the festival for several years because, well, ants like watermelon.
Shirt sizes come in extra small to 4XL. The prices are $10 for children's sizes, $12 for adult, and $15 for plus sizes.
Bradford said the shirt can be shipped to anyone who wishes to purchase one now.
"We are charging $3 for shipping on each shirt," Bradford said.
Shirts can be ordered by calling the office at 256-332-1760.
Bradford said several people have come into the office and already purchased their shirts.
"I had a lady come in here, and buy several different colors," Bradford said. "She said when she left that she's got her summer wardrobe. She wears the shirts with different color Capri pants."
The 2009 Watermelon Festival will be held Aug. 14-15 in downtown Russellville.
