Click-it-or Ticket campaign a success

By Staff
Both Russellville and Red Bay Police Departments participated in the Click-it-or-Ticket program which provides extra patrol officers to enforce seat belt and child restraint laws over Memorial Day weekend.
Russellville issued a total of 84 citations for seat belt violations and issued 46 warnings between May 18 and 31.
Red Bay worked the campaign during the same time period, but their numbers have not been tabulated yet.
The grant, from the North Alabama Highway Safety office, gave departments like Red Bay and Russellville money to pay officers overtime to patrol the streets to spot seat belt violators.
Russellville's department logged in 44 hours of overtime paid for by the grant.
"The grant pays for overtime hours so it doesn't cost the city any extra for us to participate in the campaign," Captain Shannon Oliver said.
This is a most worthy grant and we applaud local officials for participating.
