BELGREEN – Rescue crews found an 84 year-old Belgreen woman in a culvert near Chisholm Creek early Tuesday morning.
Workers on the scene said Olene Tompkins wandered away from her home sometime late Monday afternoon. Family members last saw her early in the day.
Volunteers from Belgreen, Vina, Tharptown, Hodges and Russellville combed he wooded area around her home throughout the night Monday and early Tuesday before finding her near the creek about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Some witnesses on the scene said Tompkins suffers from Alzheimer's and they suspect she wandered away from the home, which is located off Franklin 524, or old Highway 24 as many call it.
