Bobcats get first region win since 2006

PHIL CAMPBELL – When the final second ticked off the clock Saturday night Phil Campbell players Craig Saint and Dalton Hamby stood on the field with their arms raised above their heads in celebration.
You don't normally see a team so relieved to get its second win of the season, but the Bobcats have struggled in recent years and the 12-7 victory gave Phil Campbell not only its first region win since 2006, but also it first multiple win season since the same year.
"The attitude around the school is good," Phil Campbell coach Bo Culver said. "The players are still hungry and still humble."
The Bobcats (2-5, 1-4) got touchdowns on a 2-yard run by Seth Brown and a 29-yard pass from Jeff White to Dylan Hamby in the win.
Saint led Phil Campbell with 54 rushing yards on 12 carries while White carried the ball 11 times for 41 yards.
White also completed 5-of-13 pass attempts for 74 yards.
Hamby caught a pair of passes for 45 yards while Jake Dill had on catch for 16 yards
The Bobcats were eliminated from playoff contention when Clements defeated Westminster Christian Academy last week, but Culver said there is still quite a bit for his team to work for.
"If we win out, we can still finish .500," Culver said.
The Bobcats next three opponents include Hatton, WCA and Hackleburg.
Phil Campbell hits the road this week to play Hatton. The Hornets are 2-5 overall and 1-4 in region play.
Hatton is scoring 17.4 points per game and allowing 24.1 points. The Bobcats are scoring 16.6 points per game and allowing 30.8 points per game.
The game begins at 7 p.m.
