RHS boys, girls seeking berths in sub-regional round of playoffs

By Staff
The Russellville varsity boys and varsity girls basketball teams are two squads that have walked on different paths all season long.
The Lady Golden Tigers flourished early and opened the season with an impressive winning streak.
The Golden Tigers struggled early and had a record far below what many fans expected from a team that went to the state finals two seasons ago and reached the sub-regional round of the playoffs last year.
Since then the girls have struggled to finish games with intensity and have piled up a handful of losses. The boys have found their stride and are hovering around the .500 mark.
Both teams need wins in the opening round of the area tournament to salvage the season.
The Lady Golden Tigers host their tournament and will face Muscle Shoals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Russellville swept the season series with a 48-47 victory at home and a 63-44 win on the road.
The boys will hit the road for their tournament. They will play Athens at 6 p.m. Friday at Muscle Shoals High School.
The Golden Tigers lost their first game to Athens 58-57 but dominated the second game with a 75-54 victory.
Wins by both Russellville squads will guarantee them a spot in the sub-regional round of the playoffs.
