The Russellville High School dance team will be hosting a workshop that teaches dance techniques to students in grades six and up.
Participants will learn RHS dance line choreography and other types of dance techniques. The dance clinic is strongly recommended, but not required, for those who believe they want to become part of the dance team in the future.
Tigerette dance line sponsor Cindy Coan said the Tigerette dance line is only in their second year of existence and hopes this workshop will provide more training for girls, because there are so many aspects of dance that is required for team membership.
Coan said some of the girls who want to be on the team might not realize the competition they have.
The workshop will be a very active event, so participants are encouraged to wear gym shorts, dance pants, or athletic pants, with a t-shirt or sweatshirt that will allow easy movement. Tennis shoes or dance shoes are allowed, but no one will be able to just have on socks or be barefooted during the clinic.
Water and Gatorade will be provided for those participating and fruit juices and water will be provided for lunch.
Former RHS majorette, personal trainer and Tigerette choreographer Neika Nix will teach participants a number of different dance techniques that they will be able to use during their auditions for the dance team.
Participants are encouraged to eat breakfast before arriving. The workshop will be held Saturday, Feb. 20 at 8 a.m. inside the RHS Fine Arts Building. Registration fee is $15 and applications are due on or before Friday, Feb. 12. Fees are due the day of the clinic. Make checks payable to RHS Band.
