Census response in county exceeding expectations

Apparently the commercials on the television and radio are working as citizens of Franklin County are filling out and returning their 2010 Census forms early.

During the 2000 Census, county’s participation rate was 60 percent — this year it is 63 percent and that number should rise as the count continues into May.

The commercials do not lie. Census counts help determine how much federal money flows into the county to fund crucial programs. Each resident represents $1,200 per year.

While that does not sound like much, the 2008 estimated population would generate almost $37 million annually.

So if you are not one of the early respondents, send in the form — it will help bring millions to the county.
