RHS qualifies for sub-state

The Russellville golf team carried its successful season into the playoffs Tuesday with a fourth-place finish in the sectional tournament to earn a berth in the sub-state round next week.

The Golden Tigers shot 331 and finished behind Athens, Scottsboro and Arab.

Will Bragwell shot 77 to lead Russellville while Alex Pounders shot 81, Ty Trapp shot 85, Hagen Price shot 88.

The fourth-place finish was the worst of the season for Russellville, which finished no worse than second in every match played.

Justin Overton and Blake Reed also played, but their scores did not count towards the team total. Overton shot 91 and Reed shot 84.

The Golden Tigers will play at Cypress Lakes Country Club in Muscle Shoals for a berth in the state tournament.

Smith qualifies

Lindsay Smith shot 90 at the 5A girls section tournament at Southern Gayles in Athens to qualify for the sub-state tournament.

Smith earned All-Section honors and will play Tuesday in the sub-state round at Point Mallard in Decatur for a berth in the state tournament.
