School Happenings: Summer Slam

By Emily Rush

During tough times, everyone is looking for a way to raise funds to keep extracurricular programs in our school running to their fullest potential.

Here at Russellville Middle School, we enjoy raising funds while giving back to our community. Throughout the year, we have put on many shows and concerts, which have helped bring in money to keep our Chorus and Drama program running smoothly.

The first show was held in July, and we called it our First Annual R-Town Summer Slam. This year we have moved the date up to June 3 and will be presenting Summer Slam as a celebration of the year past and a preview of the year to come.

Funds from Summer Slam will be used to help purchase materials and equipment to better improve the Fine Arts Program here at RMS.

This year’s Summer Slam concert is sure to please. The concert will include 11 songs presented by our chorus and drama students from both the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 school year.

We have a very upbeat repertoire in addition to special effects that is sure to be a great kick off to anyone’s summer.

All of the chorus students will receive great opportunities to sing solos and most songs will also include choreography. In addition to the RMS students, we have several special guests that include: Kody Madden, who was named the 2010 Shoals Idol; Charlie Gordon, who was named the 2010 RES Idol; and the UNA Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

We hope that everyone will come support us as we wrap up the year on June 3 at 6:30 in the RHS auditorium. Admission is a steal at $5, so please come and be entertained and support our schools at Summer Slam 2010.
