Hatton decides Alabama Southern is the place to continue career

Heather Hatton finished her softball career at Tharptown by helping lead the Lady Wildcats to the Class 1A, Area 15 title in 2010 and the program’s first berth in the North Region Softball Tournament.

Hatton, a fierce competitor on the field, will take her talents to the next level after signing a scholarship with Alabama Southern Community College located in Monroeville.

“I liked the coach and it’s not a big school,” Hatton said.

Hatton, who spent most of her time at third base for the Lady Wildcats in her final season, fit the profile of what Alabama Southern coach Elaine Covin was looking for — a versatile player that can play anywhere.

Hatton has played many positions in the infield for Tharptown during her career.

She had a batting average of .423 her senior season and is the third Tharptown player to sign a softball scholarship during the previous two seasons.
