VINA — In the past two weeks the Vina football team has taken the field against a couple of the best teams in the state.

Friday night the Red Devils hosted sixth-ranked Addison and fell to the Bulldogs 64-14.

Addison (4-0, 3-0) opened a 31-0 lead by halftime and increased its advantage to 44-0 by the end of the third quarter.

Quarterback Nick Schmittou put the Red Devils (0-4, 0-3) on the scoreboard with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Adam Pharr. The 2-point conversion attempt failed.

Schmittou later found Ethan Hammock for another touchdown pass then had a successful 2-point pass to Clay Pierce.

Coach James Pharr said he was pleased with his team’s effort and said the passing game and the pass blocking has improved.

Hammock led the Red Devils with 102 rushing yards on 17 carries. Schmittou completed 6-of-14 passes for 127 yards, two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions.

Pharr caught two passes for 60 yards while Pierce caught four passes for 46 yards.

Channing Haithcock, Joseph Barksdale and Schmittou were the leading tacklers for Vina.

The Red Devils host Jacksonville Christian Academy next week for Homecoming.
