James Gordon Hargett

James Gordon Hargett, 71, died Monday, April 2, 2012, at home following a lengthy illness.

He was a native of Memphis, Tenn., a retired artist and art professor for Itawamba County schools and various colleges and universities in the south. He was a member of Old Union Baptist Church, Belmont, Miss.

Graveside services were Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Old Union Cemetery, Belmont, Miss., with Bro. Jerry Ginn officiating. Burial was in Old Union Cemetery.

Survivors are his wife, Myrna Jane Jolley Hargett, Golden, Miss; two children, Tiffany Marsh and husband, Shawn, of Memphis, Tenn., and Dr. Trisha Guy and husband, Ronnie, of  Rembert, S.C.; his mother, Lillie Mae Hargett, Golden, Miss.; one sister,  LaVerne Hargett Golden, of Millington, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Trace Guy and Sarah Eden Guy, both of Rembert, S.C. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry G. Hargett and an infant brother, Charles Larry Hargett.

Pallbearers were Gerald Smith, Ronnie Guy, Phillip Cain, Jason Kuykendall, Tommy Ferguson and Joey Cruse. Honorary pallbearers were Terry Motes, Steve Cain, Halbert Pitts, John Smith and Jerry Owens.
