Charges upheld against man who confessed abuse
A Russellville man who voluntarily confessed to sexually abusing a young boy was indicted by a recent grand jury.
Alberto Juan Pascual, 35, 305 East Tuscaloosa St., Russellville, was indicted for second-degree sexual abuse, enticing a child to enter for immoral purposes and second-degree sodomy, officials said.
According to reports, Pascual came to the Russellville Police Department on Aug. 10 with a religious official and told officers he wanted to confess his sins.
Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said after officers began to question the man about why he had come to the police department, he reportedly told officers that he had sexually abused a 12-year-old male victim 10 months prior.
Hargett said investigators contacted the Franklin County Department of Human Resources who interviewed the victim and confirmed Pascual’s admission was correct.
Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said Pascual’s case will be set for arraignment on June 28.
