PCHS has solved part of the equation

Phil Campbell High School has two new faces that will soon grace its grounds. The Franklin County Board of Education has hired Jonathan Raper as the new head baseball coach and Jason Hill as the new head football coach.

Raper was a coach at Phillips High School in Bear Creek for most of the 2000-2010 decade. He was an assistant football coach there and also headed the girl’s basketball team in 2006 and 2007.

Hill was an assistant football coach and science teacher at Chelsea High School in Chelsea. Ala., just southeast of Birmingham.

The search for a new head softball coach continues, but finding two pieces of the puzzle is much better than having none. Plus, the BOE still has some time to find the remaining puzzle piece.

I give the BOE and Superintendent Gary Williams props for finding replacements for these positions so quickly, especially the head football coaching spot, which was vacated by Bo Culver under short notice.

That is the world of teaching and coaching, though. You never know who will find a new job somewhere else and have to be replaced. The BOE has handled this situation well, though.

School let out for the summer just a few short weeks ago, and already two new coaches have been hired on to fill the gaps at PCHS.

Finding new coaches is the best thing that can be done for the athletes. Now that the coaches are in place, the players can return to the task at hand; preparing for next season.
