Couple arrested on drug charges

An ongoing drug investigation led officers to the Russellville home of a couple thought to be involved in recent house break-ins.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Investigator Justin Truelove said a man and woman were arrested at their home Wednesday after admitting to making methamphetamine as well as other crimes.

Charles Coleman Poores, 23, of 464 Franklin 162, Russellville, was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree manufacturing of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, third-degree burglary and third-degree theft of property.

Truelove said investigators found methamphetamine inside the residence and areas in the yard that had been sites used to operate meth labs.

During the investigation, officers found that Poores was in possession of items that had been reported stolen as well.

His wife, Kara Poores, 20, of the same address, was charged with second-degree manufacturing of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Investigators with the Franklin County Drug Unit and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation are assisting with the case.

Charles Poores remains in the county jail, while his wife was released on bond.

The burglary charges stem from accusations that he broke into a residence in Vina.
