Two men arrested for separate weekend burglaries
Two Russellville men were arrested on Thursday for their alleged role in separate weekend burglaries.
Jerry Austin Swindle, 18, 633 Clay Ave., Russellville; and Jared Brannon Richardson, 21, 6515 Franklin 63, Russellville were both arrested on two counts of third-degree burglary and one count of second-degree theft of property, officials said.
According to Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett, officers responded to a call from the 100 block of Lynch Lane early Saturday morning where a storage building had been broken into.
Hargett said the private storage building on the homeowner’s property had been burglarized and several items were stolen, including a weed eater, a leaf blower, an air compressor, tools and other personal items.
Around the same time as the first burglary, Hargett said officers received a call from the 600 block of Clay Avenue where several garden tools and equipment had been stolen from a residence.
Investigator Lt. Scotty Lowery said the homeowner reported mowers, plows, cultivators and various scrap metal had been stolen.
“As we were investigating the case, we received a call from the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office that a person had pawned many items matching the description of the items stolen from the first residence at a Colbert County pawn shop,” Lowery said. “After receiving this information, we were able to develop our two suspects.”
Lowery said almost all the items stolen from the Lynch Lane residence have been recovered. The department is still working to recover the stolen items from the Clay Avenue break-in.
