Benton Franklin Gober, 53, died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at Red Bay Hospital where he had been a patient since June 22, 2012.
He was born May 11, 1959, the third of three sons, to William Marlin Gober, Sr. and Retha Christine Harcrow Gober. While still an infant, he moved with his parents and one brother to Zion, Ill., where he lived and attended school until he was 17. His parents then retired and they moved back to Alabama where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a loving son and brother and of great help to his mother, especially in the final years of his father’s life, as he did much to assist in his care.
Frank was employed over the years by several furniture makers and other industries in the Red Bay and Northeast Mississippi areas. Frank was a hard worker and rarely, if ever, complained about having to work hard. He made friends easily and was loyal to both friends and family. He enjoyed NASCAR, playing golf and going fishing with his friends whenever he had the opportunity. Some have said that Frank knew where some good fishing spots were and that his golf game had improved greatly over the past year or so. During the last several weeks, he missed the golfing and the fishing, but most of all he missed being out with his friends as much as he would have liked.
Services were Saturday, July 28, 2012, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dan Hindman officiating. Burial was in Burnout Cemetery.
Survivors are his mother, Retha Christine Gober, Vina; two brothers, Marlin Gober Jr., Sheffield, and Terry Gober and wife, Sherry, Litchfield Park, Ariz.; one nephew, Troy Gober, Tempe, Ariz.; two nieces, Cindy Gober, Alton, Ill., and T.J. Fleming and husband, Nathan, Litchfield Park, Ariz.; one great-nephew, Aiden Fleming, Litchfield Park, Ariz.; former sister-in-law, Linda Gober, Godfrey, Ill., and a host of cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents, Benton and Georgia Gober and Troy and Myrtie Harcrow.
Pallbearers were Billy Chism, Jerry Self, Mark Hardin, Joel Garrison, Randy Elliott and Marvin Carlton.
