DHR revamping scholarship fundraiser

When James Gary Reid, a beloved employee of the Franklin County Department of Human Resources, passed away in 2007, his co-workers knew they wanted to find a way to pay tribute to his memory and all the things he had done for the people of Franklin County.
Every year since 2008, DHR employees have held a hamburger lunch fundraiser to raise the money for scholarships given in Reid’s memory to two seniors from both the Russellville City and Franklin County school systems.
But this year, DHR employees decided they wanted to try something a little different that might turn into a fun annual activity for county residents.
To raise the funds for the four scholarships, Franklin County DHR will host a co-ed softball tournament Friday evening, August 24, through Saturday evening, August 25, at East Side Park in Russellville
DHR representatives said it is a co-ed tournament but they would still accept an all men’s team as well.
The cost to enter the double elimination tournament is $100 per team. Registration will take place Monday, August 20, but teams interested in participating should go ahead and contact DHR as soon as possible to ensure their spot.
For more information about the tournament, contact Stephanie or Sonja at 256-331-5938.
