Fight leads to assault charges against city man
A Russellville man is in custody after allegedly assaulting another man over money he was owed, officials said.
Donald Haddock, 31, Sockwell Ave., Russellville, was charged with second-degree assault, destruction of public property by an inmate, public intoxication and criminal mischief, Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said.
According to Hargett, officers were dispatched to Eastside Park on Monday evening after receiving a call about an assault.
Hargett said according to reports, Haddock had met another man at the park to discuss money he was owed by the man’s friend.
Police investigator Lt. Scotty Lowery said the discussion turned violent and Haddock allegedly became enraged and assaulted the man with a baseball bat or a pipe.
Lowery said officers arrested Haddock at the scene, but when he was taken into custody, he became combative.
“We believe Mr. Haddock was under the influence of some type of substance when he became combative with officers,” Lowery said. “He was fighting back and after he was placed in the back of the patrol car, he kicked the passenger-side window and shattered it.”
Lowery said once Haddock was finally under control, he was transported to the city jail.
The victim was transported to Russellville Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released, officials said.
Haddock is still in custody at the Franklin County Jail without bond pending a revocation hearing for a Community Corrections violation.
