Grissom elected Russellville mayor

Russellville city councilman David Grissom was overcome by emotions Tuesday night following a decisive victory in the mayor’s race.

Grissom, a Russellville business owner, defeated incumbent Mayor Troy Oliver 1,501 votes to 711.

“This is an overwhelming feeling right now,” Grissom said. “It’s unbelievable.

“I can’t thank the people of Russellville enough for this opportunity and it is something that I certainly will not take lightly.”

Grissom campaigned on a platform  of change in the way city business is administered and he said he felt like residents were ready for that change.

“I think people want open and accountable government and that’s what they will get. It takes everyone working together as a team.”

Oliver, a retired general with the Alabama Army National Guard, said he appreciated his time in office and would do anything he could to help Grissom and the city during the transition period.

“I want to keep working for the programs I  have started and I will do whatever I can to help him.”
