RB city to help with costs at home football games
RED BAY – When people think about the elements that go into pulling off a successful Friday night of football, security and emergency services may not always make the list, but they are two important elements for any local football game.
For the past several years, security and ambulance services at Red Bay football games have been provided by the school’s football program, but the city made the decision at Monday’s city council meeting to pick up the tab this year.
Place 1 councilman Mike Kennedy made the motion explaining the players on the field aren’t the only ones who might need these services at the game.
“This is something the city should provide for our citizens,” Kennedy said. “Someone in the stands is just as likely to have a medical emergency as one of the players on the field.”
The cost for police security per game is $180 and the cost for ambulance service is $120 to $150 per game.
The money to cover those costs will come from the general fund.
