COLBERT HEIGHTS — The mood in Colbert Heights was solemn during the pregame, as fans and players had thoughts of Jesse Rainey on their minds.

Rainey, a 15-year-old football player at Colbert Heights, was shot in an accident on Saturday and passed away at UAB Hospital before the game on Friday night.

Students were informed during school hours, and a moment of silence was taken before kickoff to remember the fallen player.

Colbert Heights set out to win its contest against Phil Campbell in honor of Rainey, and the Wildcats did so with a 46-20 victory.

The Bobcats fell behind 26-0 before finally putting points on the board just before halftime.

Colbert Heights was pinned deep in its own territory and forced to attempt a punt on fourth down.

The punt was blocked at the line of scrimmage by the Bobcats, and Phil Campbell freshman Tristen Godsey fell on the ball in the end zone.

Craig Saint’s PAT was good, and the Bobcats deficit was cut to 26-7.

Senior David Sparks became very vocal on the sidelines before the blocked punt. He urged his team to not give up, and that fire stuck with the Bobcats after halftime, but only for a time.

Phil Campbell made two solid defensive stops, but the Bobcat offense could not get things rolling.

The Wildcats would take a 46-7 lead before Phil Campbell would score again.

The Bobcats’ offensive lull was ended on a 42-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Jacob Hamilton to senior Jamie Dorroh late in the fourth quarter.

Hamilton connected with Dorroh once more on a 14-yard TD pass just under two minutes later, but that would end the scoring for the night.
